A new addition to the farm this spring (besides the 40 or so goat kids born!) is Ozzy, our herd guardian dog.
With the large number of kids born on the farm this year, we have been looking at outsourcing some of their brush clearing power since last fall's breeding season. We have been talking with the owner of a nearby orchard looking to use goat power to clean up the surrounding fields since around that time. Since the goats will be away from our direct oversight, we decided that we needed to bring in some help. We found Ozzy.
Ozzy was in training with some Nigerian Dwarf goats in Massachusetts for about five months before coming to Flying Goat Farm. While he was completely fine with the presence of the goats, the goats were definitely not used to having a big white fluffy dog in their barn!
The girls have gotten used to Ozzy over the past few weeks, and his training is continuing so that he will be able to stay with the goats while they are at work at goat-scaping.
