If you follow Flying Goat Farm news in other places than this blog, I'm sure you've already heard: Flying Goat Farm is kickstarting.
If you haven't heard of kickstarter before, here's a quick primer: Kickstarter is an online platform for crowd-funding creative projects. Crowd funding means that we are asking many people to each contribute a little bit to help fund our project. If you follow us on facebook, you've probably seen us talking about our project.
So what is our project?
We've been making cheese in the same tiny space for the past four years, and we really can't do it the same way anymore. When we started making cheese for markets, we were milking just two goats, and now we're milking ten! Our equipment is not designed to handle this much milk every day and we are spending a lot of time running small batches of milk and cheese, taking a lot of time away from other things that need attending.
This spring, a nearby goat dairy in New Hampshire, Via Lactea, retired from the cheesemaking business. We have given them a deposit and they are working with us to purchase all of their milking and cheesemaking equipment, including a 40 gallon bulk tank and a 30 gallon pasteurizer. We will need to construct new space to hold this equipment, but once everything is in place, we will have the proper equipment and licensing to sell and ship our cheeses all across the country. We will be able to join the Seacoast Growers' Association farmers' markets, and next season, with 20 or more does in milk, we expect to be able to supply several retail locations so fans who need their Flying Goat Cheese fix when there isn't a farmers' market to attend will be able to get what they need.
If you are interested in supporting Flying Goat Farm in our endeavors, what we're asking you to do is visit our kickstarter project page, share with your friends, and contribute if you can by clicking the green button that says "Back This Project" right next to our video. Every little bit helps, and every dollar is appreciated.
If we do not meet our funding goal we do not get any funding at all. Backers are not charged and our project cannot go forward.
Today we are almost half way through our funding period and almost halfway to our goal- please help us keep the momentum up and spread the love so we can spread the chévre!
